Sunday Seafood Brunch at The Shangri-La, Chiang Mai
Notorious for high-end stays and luxury retreats, Shangri-La hotels usually do indeed live up to their fictional namesake, a land that essentially represents heaven. And when in heaven, one expects to dine like the Gods. The Sunday Seafood brunch at Shangri-La Chiang Mai in Thailand is no exception and the sight is truly one to behold, especially when you get a look at the Alaskan King crab claws.
Brunch starts every Sunday at 11:00 at the Kad Kafe and costs a mere $33 US (which, let’s be honest, that’s how much you’d pay for one crab claw this size in the US). Basic brunch includes all the food you can handle and unlimited tea, coffee and water. If you’re really feeling frisky, you can do an all-you-can drink option for an additional $28 that includes beer, wine and select cocktails like bloodies/screwdrviers. This buffet is not for the faint of heart and it’s definitely not for you if you don’t like seafood because that is what it’s mostly comprised of, though there is roasted duck, a make-your-own-Udon or pasta bowl station, pizza, fried rices and an assortment of other dishes if the fruits of the sea aren’t your favorite.
Not only is there a sushi bar station fresh cheeses & honey, every dipping sauce imaginable, curried crab dishes, and a mind-blowing assortment of desserts including sorbets and a chocolate fountain, make sure you don’t miss out on the outdoor grill where they’re frying up everything from crab to jumbo shrimp and oysters. Still not enough? They even bring you the Chef’s special of the day, which when we were there, happened to be lobster. I thought we got one for the table so we split it and then to our surprise, another arrived at the table. I was stuffed and we didn’t even do the drinking package!
Brunch here is definitely a do-not-miss, especially when you take into the account the cost. Plus, there’s the added bonus of free pool access post-feast, so even if you aren’t staying there, you can still crash the party and the pool.
