Mama Wanna Mamajuana!

Cocktail that is...

Mamajuana, what is it?

In the 1950’s Jesus Rodriguez, a native of San Juan De La Maguana, Dominican Republic, popularized an ancient distilled spirit as an inspirational cure-all medicinal elixir from Rum, Honey, local bark and herbs. It was believed that this “Mamajuana” elixir could cure the flu, aid digestion, improve circulation, cleanse the blood, liver and kidneys. It was even used as an aphrodisiac providing it the nickname of “baby maker”. There are in fact some holistic medicinal qualities derived from the local bark and herbs used in the infusion process.

In modern day Dominican Republic, Mamajuana is used as both an herbal remedy and an enjoyable beverage for the adult community. Most brands available on the market do not mix well in cocktails, however Candela Mamajuana — the first ready-to-drink premium spiced rum specialty drink from the Dominican Republic,  has discovered the perfect blend to provide optimum Mamajuana cocktails for all to enjoy. We have gathered up 5 rum-miest Mamajuana recipes to keep you healthy all year long. Cheers!
