A Hotel Fit For A Queen
Situated in the prestigious neighborhood of Sandhurst in Johannesburg, South Africa, is the Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa, sitting on ten acres of immaculately manicured grounds surrounded by beautiful lush gardens. It is obvious from the moment you arrive to the Saxon that this is no ordinary hotel. Its pristine exteriors are regal, to say the least, as one would expect of a hotel that has hosted dignitaries from all over the world, from Nelson Mandela, who completed his autobiography here, to President Bill Clinton to actor Will Smith.
When you arrive at The Saxon, you’ll be driven to check-in in a luxurious Mercedes. Following that, you’ll be introduced to your personal butler who is there to cater to your every need during your stay, from unpacking to shopping to making travel arrangements and anything else that will make your stay as carefree as possible.
The hotel’s storied past is evidenced in its African artwork, sculptures, artifacts, and photos that reflect its many legendary guests.
Despite its history, The Saxon is completely 21st century when it comes to amenities. Suites offer state-of-the-art technology–such as surround sound and automated draperies–as well as a lovely garden view and private patio with easy access to the poolside lounge.
If you prefer something more isolated and private, you might be interested in one of the beautiful garden villas, which accommodate up to 18 guests, have a private plunge pool, and a terrace that overlooks the gardens. Two of the villas also have a private Spa Suite. While guests are able to dine at the main hotel, they are also offered the opportunity to dine in the privacy of the villa.
Fine dining is available at Qunu, just one of the hotel’s restaurants. The hotel chefs choose ingredients daily from the hotel’s rooftop garden. Breakfast is included in your hotel stay and features fresh fruit, pastries, meats and cheeses, coffee, tea, orange juice and, of course, champagne. Feel free to eat in the restaurant or enjoy a lazy morning in your suite.
The level of service at the Saxon is most impressive, which is not surprising given the many celebrities and dignitaries who make it their home away from home. One cannot help but walk away from The Saxon feeling pampered and renewed.
